Pastor Jeff joined First Church Somerville in December 2011. Raised Presbyterian in Warwick, RI, Jeff chose the United Church of Christ as his spiritual home for our rich history and our powerful commitment to God and to our neighbors.
Jeff received his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in 2007. While at Union, Jeff got involved with the Poverty Initiative and continues to serve proudly as a Poverty Scholar. After graduation he served as chaplain to NYC restaurant workers at Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village, and he continues his work with the Restaurant Opportunities Center of NY, where he was a community and labor organizer.
Jeff has made his home here with us because he wants to serve a congregation that is growing in numbers, in faith, and in engagement to our city and our world. He thinks church is mostly fun (FUN!) and absolutely for everybody (EVERYBODY!). As we say in the UCC, “No matter who you are and no matter where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome here!” If you’re new to First Church or to ALL Church, Jeff loves it when you say “Hi!” Some recent favorite conversations with First Churchers include chats about: Jesus, mystical experiences, quantum physics, zombies, the future of the Church, the present of the Church, art, bicycles, Occupy Somerville, hope, purpose, passion, practical spirituality, imagination, sex, theology, justice, hiking, and prayer.
Rev. Jeff is at the Diesel Café for office hours on Thursday mornings from 8:30-10am (and lots of other times).
